Stops: Neumarkt, Heumarkt

If you only think of old vessels and boring stones when you think of the Roman-Germanic Museum, you are mistaken: the exhibition shows unique finds from the ancient city history of Cologne, for example flip-flops made of glass, which were originally intended as perfume bottles. Shoes like these were pure luxury items then as now; nothing similar is known from anywhere in the Roman Empire. If you are interested in the equipment of Roman doctors or would like to know how Romans lived and worked in Cologne 2,000 years ago, a visit is also worthwhile. And who was Emperor Augustus, who initiated the founding of Cologne? Questions like these and other important topics of Cologne's ancient city history are dealt with in the exhibition near Neumarkt on around 1,000 square meters. During the general renovation of the museum building at Roncalliplatz, the Roman-Germanic Museum is currently located in the Belgian House.
